Focused on Educating, Supporting, Publicizing and Building America's Garden Communities
The Plant America initiative, President Nancy Hargroves's signature project, emphasizes the cornerstone elements of gardening: the variety of garden types; the elements required for healthy, sustainable gardens; an awareness of environmental issues; and resources to provide needed funds to put garden plans into action.
Committees have been created that focus their attention and efforts on exploring, educating, and supporting the NGC community on their particular area of expertise. It also establishes an endowment fund to both receive and distribute funds to support NGC member club activities.
The Plant America project, chaired by Betty Cookendorfer, is designed to help NGC members and the public return to the "roots" of why most members join garden clubs - to learn about gardening! This focus has provided a new structure for committees and projects, simplifying and consolidating many former initiatives under new umbrellas.
Natural Disaster USA Fund Extends a Helping Hand
The Natural Disaster USA Fund was established by NGC in 1997 to receive monetary contributions from states, clubs and individuals for the purpose of assisting local and state clubs with their garden-related restoration efforts. This fund has helped to replant parks, municipal gardens and other garden related sites due to natural disasters caused by floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, ice storms and wildfires.
Grants of up $5000 per project may be awarded in a fiscal year to local or state clubs. The application form can be downloaded from the link below. The application must include the location of the site involved, nature and severity of the disaster, proposed restoration plan by the garden club, estimated itemized cost of the project, as well as funds received from outside sources. A scale of points guideline is used for determining the grant to be awarded. Applications are to be emailed to Patricia Smith, Chairman: Grants, Natural Disasters
The Natural Disaster USA Fund is supported solely by the generous donations of dedicated garden club members, and has extended a helping hand by awarding grants to many fellow garden clubs across the country. We ask for your contributions to keep this fund alive so that we will be able to continue to provide much needed assistance to clubs restoring garden-related areas devastated by any past, present or future natural disasters. Make checks payable to Natural Disaster USA Fund and mail to the attention of the NGC Treasurer, at Headquarters, 4401 Magnolia Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110-3492. All donations are tax deductible, and will be gratefully acknowledged!
Bloomin' Bucks with Brent and Becky's Bulbs
We continue to partner with Brent and Becky and their beautiful bulbs! Brent and Becky's business began in 1900 when Brent's grandfather moved to the Chesapeake Bay area. What began as a daffodil business has evolved into much more-- they now offer bulbs, seeds, perennials, plants, supplements, books, and gifts.
Brent and Becky are now in their fourth generation of providing bulbs to gardeners. NGC loves being involved with their booming and blooming business, and our shared interest in gardening makes them a great partner!

GARDEN TOOLS 4 GARDEN PROJECTS
AMES + NGC = Gardening!
Project Description
NGC has formed a partnership with The AMES Companies, Inc. for a Garden Tools project. Founded in 1774, AMES is the largest U.S.A. manufacturer of gardening tools. AMES will grant tools for approved state or club landscaping projects/programs. This partnership started in October 2014.
Espoma Plant Foods
and Soils Supports Plant America
National Garden Clubs is excited to announce a new partnership with a premier provider of organic plant foods and potting soils - Espoma.
Known for it's "Tone" family of products, Holly-tone, Plant-tone and Rose-tone to name a few, Espoma has operated since 1929 with a commitment to manufacturing using only the finest ingredients available in a fashion that values its employees, shareholders and customers.
In support of President Nancys Hargroves's project "Plant America", Espoma announced at the Richmond Convention that it would provide grants of up to $250 of their organic plant foods and potting soils to 20 garden clubs. Additionally, they have created an NGC dedicated page on their corporate website recognizing the "Plant America" initiative and providing resources to garden clubs.
